Big Lake is located on the shores of both Big Lake and Mitchell Lake, and is at the southern entry point for the Sherburne County National Wildlife Refuge and the Sand Dunes State Forest. The City is located midway between Minneapolis and St. Cloud, at the intersection of US highway 10 and MN 25. Big Lake is also home to the end station of the Northstar Commuter Rail. The Station will be operational by the Summer of 2009. The city of Big Lake is experiencing huge growth and will continue to expand with the completion of the Northstar Commuter Rail Station. Because of the growth Big Lake is experiencing the City Administration has become very development friendly and is increasingly easier to work with. Also, for development opportunities, economic development incentives are negotiated on a case by case basis. Tax increment, tax abatement, and revolving loan funds will be offered if appropriate.
